Question 1: With an older patient, for what are you looking which are particularly common?

Answer:


Even though she has no history of hypertension or diabetes, it's still worth looking for retinal signs of these diseases such as

I. Diabetes

  1. retinal microaneurysms, hemorrhages, exudates, venous beading
  2. intraretinal microvascular abnormalities
  3. retinal neovascularization
  4. vitreous and/or preretinal hemorrhage
II. Hypertension (HTN) (click on "Back" to return)
  1. Exudates, Cotton Wool Spots, Copper and Silver Wiring, AV Nicking
  2. sometimes Papilledema, Hemorrhage
