Question 5: At this point, what should you do?
Answer:
Acute central retinal artery occlusion is an ophthalmic emergency.
There is one measure that you can take before you refer to an ophthalmologist. You can alternately compress the eye for 10 seconds and release for 10 seconds for a total of 5 minutes. The sudden rise/fall in intraocular pressure could dislodge a small embolus and restore circulation.
