In conclusion, DVT affects 2 million Americans per year and is the third most common cardiovascular disease behind acute coronary syndromes and stroke. Prevention and treatment is available yet underused, resulting in unnecessary pulmonary emboli. Clinical suspicion necessitates diagnostic tests.
