Kidney, Pancreas, and Kidney/Pancreas Transplantation
Meet the Team
Our transplant care team consists of physicians and a
physician assistant, program manager, coordinators, social
workers, pharmacist, nutritionist, financial counselor, and
staff assistants. This entire team works together to
provide the best possible care.
Physicians
Our transplant surgeons evaluate your present condition, make
recommendations, and ultimately perform your transplant surgery.
Our transplant physicians collaborate with the surgeon in
evaluating your need for transplantation and help with your
care. They also coordinate care with other medical specialists when needed.

Physician Assistants
Manager
Our transplant program manager provides leadership and
management for the solid organ transplant program. She
works closely with the team of medical, surgical, and support
staff to develop and implement systems to support high-quality,
patient-centered care.
Coordinators
Our transplant coordinators are highly trained registered
nurses who play an integral role in your care before and after
transplant. Before transplant, a coordinator will guide
you through the education and work-up process. A
coordinator will be your contact person for any questions or
concerns you have while awaiting transplant. After
transplant, a coordinator will educate you about how to properly
care for yourself, monitor your lab work, and answer any
questions that arise.

coverage, and explains to you what coverage you have available
for transplant and medications after transplant. The
counselor also makes recommendations for additional coverage to
minimize your out-of-pocket expense after transplant.
Staff Assistants
Our transplant staff assistant are involved with daily
operations in the Penn State Transplant Program office.
They answer questions, provide information, and assist medical
staff with scheduling tests and clinic appointments.
Social Workers
Our transplant social workers provide support, education,
counseling, and assistance throughout the evaluation and
transplant process. They assist patients and families as
they adjust to life with a chronic illness, living with a
transplant, and resuming life after a transplant. Social
work services are available for all pre- and post-transplant
patients and their families, as well as for living organ donors.
Pharmacist
Our transplant pharmacist has an in-depth knowledge of
transplant-related medications. She educates patients
about immunosuppressive medications, side effects of
medications, and proper dosing.
Nutritionist
Our transplant nutritionist offers nutrition counseling for
patients awaiting transplant, as well as for post-transplant
patients. Nutrition support is tailored to meet the needs
of each patient.
