Residency Programs
Pediatric
Surgery
Currently, there is no pediatric
surgical fellowship at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. The main goal of the Division is to familiarize the
general surgical resident with all aspects of pre-, intra-, and postoperative pediatric
surgical care. In addition, residents obtain insight into the surgical problems of
pediatrics during their rotation on the pediatric surgery service.
Medical students in their third
year may elect to devote two or four weeks of the surgical clerkship to pediatric
surgery. An elective is offered in the fourth year for students who are interested
in a longer and more intensive exposure to pediatric surgery, and is suggested for
students interested in a career in pediatrics.
Attending faculty, residents, and
medical students form the team and are involved in all patient care, research, and
education. Teaching is carried out on rounds, in the operating room, in the
outpatient clinic, and in the research laboratory.
