Welcome to the web-site of the Med/Peds
Residency at Penn State University and
Children's Hospital. Since its
inception in 1988, our program has been
devoted to training primary care
physicians within a university setting.
The residents are trained to the highest
standards in pediatrics and internal
medicine, so that they will be comfortable
in both the office and the hospital
setting.
Knowing that some residents will pursue
diverse career paths, the goal of the
curriculum is to provide one that is rich
in opportunity and experience. Our
university, community and VA hospital
rotations complement our combined med/peds
continuity clinics (opportunities at inner
city, suburb and university sites). We
have multiple learning opportunities from
our pediatric and internal medicine grand
rounds, morning reports and noon
conferences to our weekly med/peds
resident-driven outpatient lectures.
Teaching is important and is fostered from
senior to junior residents. Our residents
become excellent teachers.
We seek candidates with a strong
academic record, exceptional interpersonal
skills, and a sincere desire to work with
and for adults and children.
In addition to the Children’s
Hospital, the Penn State Hershey Medical
Center’s 504-bed tertiary care facility
serves a central Pennsylvania population
of almost 2 million people. The Medical
Center boasts a level 1 trauma center
complete with aeromedical transportation
facilities,
a custom-designed pediatric ambulance
with specially trained transport teams,
a network of community-based
clinics, and a $85 million internationally
acclaimed research program.
At the same time, the Hershey community
is a wonderful and safe place to live,
work, and play. It offers residents and
their family members a wide range of
cultural events, recreational facilities,
superior schools and undergraduate
institutions, and professional employment
opportunities.
We hope this has sparked further
interest in our program. We invite you to
explore our website and then arrange a
visit to come and see for yourself.
