Application Process
The Pathology Residency training program at The Pennsylvania State University
College of Medicine/Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is fully accredited by the
Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for training in
combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Anatomic Pathology only, and Clinical
Pathology only. We have a maximum
of 12 residents in our program. Application
and supporting materials must be submitted via ERASβ
(Electronic Residency Application Service at the Association of American Medical
Colleges [AAMC]). Please visit the
ERASβ
web site at: http://www.aamc.org/eras.
Required items that should be sent to ERAs include: a copy of your Deans letter, your
transcript, official USMLE step 1 and 2 scores, and three letters of
recommendation. International
Medical Graduates are also required to have ECFMG certification and have a
currently valid ECFMG certificate to present upon employment. Applications
sent directly to us by regular or electronic mail will not be accepted or
considered. We sponsor J-1 visas,
but we do not sponsor H
visas.
We
evaluate the candidate's entire application package during the review process.
We do not have defined minimum USMLE scores, grade point averages, etc.
The final step in the application process is an on-site interview that
generally lasts from 8:30 AM to approximately 2:00 PM on the scheduled day.
Applications are reviewed as they are received through ERASβ,
and interviews are offered at the beginning of November.
Those invited for an interview will be contacted by electronic
mail. We accept approximately 2 to
3 first year (PGY-1) residents each year depending on the total number of
residents in the program.
