Dr. Laurence M. Demers, Distinguished Professor of Pathology and Medicine,
was recently awarded a presidential medal by the National Academy of Clinical
Biochemistry (NACB) for services rendered as president of the academy from
1984-85. He was one of 19 previous NACB presidents to receive the
antique gold medal to commemorate their services to the academy.
Dr. Demers was also appointed to a NASA review panel on musculoskeletal
biology. His role is to evaluate proposals that seek to mitigate bone
and muscle loss in space using either animal models or human volunteers.
