Palliative Care
provides comfort for the seriously ill through the relief of
pain, symptoms, and stress. The focus of Palliative Care is neither to hasten nor postpone death. It
provides relief from pain and other distressing symptoms and integrates the
psychological and spiritual aspects of care. Furthermore, it offers a support
system to help relatives and friends cope during the patient's illness and
bereavement.
Our Mission is to provide
unconditional care to improve the quality of life for patients and their
families with incurable diseases.
Palliative Medicine at Penn State Hershey Medical Center integrates the
emotional and spiritual well-being of the patient and family into the management
of pain and other physical symptoms of suffering.
We assist our patients and their
families as they cope with the sadness, depression, and loneliness associated
with impeding loss of life. We provide an opportunity for spiritual exploration,
growth, and healing, so they are able to bring peaceful closure to their lives.
We serve as a bridge between our
hospitalized patients and their home or inpatient hospice care.
Our goal is to provide seamless
care.
