The PA Area Health Education Center Program is a program committed to:
The PA AHEC increases access to primary health care services through a training model of community-based health professions education. Through this training model, the PA AHEC program has developed partnerships with participating medical schools in the Commonwealth including:
In addition to these academic centers, the PA AHEC is also affiliated with 63 academic health institutions throughout the Commonwealth. A valued component of the statewide training system is the 1,045 community-based physician/practitioners who provide health care services in 972 health care practices and regional branches of large health care systems. These practitioners/teachers introduce students and residents to the challenges of ambulatory practice in rural and urban communities, especially the medically underserved areas. They have the responsibility of not only demonstrating clinical excellence but also of teaching professionalism in medicine to the future health professions workforce for the Commonwealth.
