The PA Area Health Education Center Program is committed to:

Improving community and public health initiatives and

Improving access to quality of life.

The program serves as:

A definitive system to identify community health needs and

A vehicle for public health education.

Community and public health programs are important facets to fulfilling the PA AHEC mission.  Each year the PA AHEC, in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, various funding agencies and community-based organizations, present numerous public health programs that help to address the community's health care needs.

Programming for community residents cover such topics as cancer education, domestic violence and substance abuse.  Programs are also conducted to educate and inform patients and families living with diseases such as diabetes or asthma.

The PA AHEC presents programs that are targeted at special fractions of the community, such as the Farmedic program, which trains emergency personnel and farming families the proper procedures to follow in the event of a farming accident.  The Farmedic program is presented in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Agromedicine Program.
