Penn State College of Medicine is recognized by U.S.
News & World Report, March 29, 1999 issue as one of the top medical schools
in the country for primary care (which includes the areas of Family Practice, General
Internal Medicine and General Pediatrics). This ranking was granted for the second
consecutive year.
Penn State Childrens Hospital has a Level III (highest level) state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care
(NICU) unit. This means babies born to mothers with high- risk pregnancies, low
birth-weight babies and full-term babies with congenital disease receive the highest level
of care by the most experienced NICU specialists in the country.
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Penn State Childrens
Hospital received the highest rating for its care to medical, surgical, and trauma
patients by the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Evaluations. This ranks the
PICU among the top in the country.
Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center has been ranked among the
nations Top 100 Orthopaedic Specialty Hospitals as recognized by HCIA, - and
independent consulting firm - November 1999. Additionally our Orthopaedics program was
ranked by U.S. News and World Report, Americas Best Hospitals edition- July, 1998
as one of the top 40 hospitals for Orthopaedic care in the nation and we ranked in the top
10 out of all hospitals in the Northeast.
