Minimally Invasive Surgery

Our Services

Total Hysterectomy

Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TLH), is similar to a vaginal hysterectomy in that the uterus and cervix are removed through an incision at the top of the vagina. The surgeon uses a laparoscope inserted into the abdomen through one of the small incisions to view the uterus and the surrounding organs. The uterus and cervix are detached from the vaginal cuff under view of the laparoscope using specialized laparoscopic surgical tools also inserted through the other small incisions. The vaginal incision is closed laparoscopically and no retractors or instruments are placed in the vagina

Whether a woman chooses to retain their cervix with a Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy (LSH) or have a more traditional hysterectomy via Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TLH) is a personal decision. You can talk with your surgeon about the risks and benefits of each MIS hysterectomy option. Women who choose to have a LSH will need to continue with their regular Pap screening.
