Student Aid Information for International Students
Most forms of financial aid offered at Penn State
College of Medicine are provided by the federal government
and are available only to U.S. citizens and Permanent
Residents. International students are not eligible for
Federal Stafford Loans, Federal Perkins Loans, University
Scholarships and University Loans.
There are private loans that are available for
International or Canadian students
- The most widely used program is with the
International Student Loan Program for International
Students and the Canadian Higher Education Loan Program
for Canadian Students. Information regarding these loans
can be found at www.iefc.com or by calling 1-888-296-4332.
- The
Citibank Signature loan
is also available for international students.
- International students must demonstrate that they,
their families or a sponsor will be able to satisfy the
cost of a medical education for the four years needed to
complete the program. Documentation of ability to pay for
the entire four years is required and must be submitted to
the College of Medicine from a bank, a lending
institution, government or some other agency by May 1
of the year of initial enrollment .

- The Penn State College of Medicine International
Student Checklist provides a list of pertinent information for
international students.
- Be aware that all visa documents (I-20, DS-2019) are
issued and processed through the Office of International
Students and Scholars and must be sent to that office to
be signed for travel or when any revision is needed. OISS
is located at the University Park campus, a two-hour drive
from the College of Medicine in Hershey. Allow sufficient
time for such documents to be processed and delivered
through the mail.
- Frequently review the information provided on the web
site for the Office for University Students and Scholar.
- Carefully read and comply with emails from the Office
of University Students and Scholars. They contain updates
to information and requirements.
