The Penn State Hershey Medical Center mission is to enhance the
quality of life and serve our community through improved health, the
education of health professionals, and the discovery of knowledge. PSHMC
proudly invests in its employees and leaders by providing numerous
opportunities for professional development. This supports our mission
and our Service Excellence initiative. Various areas throughout the
institution contribute to the education of health professionals.
Human Resources, Operations provides training on specific human resource
topics like policies, forms, performance management, and collective bargaining agreements.
Human Resources, Recruitment assists management
with the interviewing, selection and hiring processes to
ensure the success of the organization. Recruitment is
also available to train managers on recruiting processes,
procedures, interviewing skills and software. The
recruitment team is involved in various career days and
activities at PSHMC to train, educate and assist employees
of all levels in their career endeavors.
Nursing Professional
Development provides ongoing professional development to maintain a highly
competent staff. It enables staff to gain new knowledge and skills that are
vital to providing safe and expert nursing care. It works collaboratively with
schools of nursing to provide excellent clinical learning opportunities for
basic and advanced nursing students.
The Center
for Training, Learning, and Leadership Development exists to
support our organizational goals and performance through
education, leadership, and staff development. We implement and
evaluate educational activities. There are many opportunities
for development in staff and leadership roles. We offer
educational programs in communication, time management, change,
management orientation, problem solving, and many more.
Technology Education’s mission is to provide high quality computer
software training services in support of the continuing mission of patient care,
education, research, and community service. Its goal is to help employees make
the most of our investment in computer resources. A series of instructor-led
classes are their core service.
Penn State Web
Based Training is available free of charge to help employees at Penn
State learn and use the skills for personal, professional, and academic
development. There are over 1,100 courses an employee can choose from to enhance
information technology, business and professional development skills.
Tuition Assistance is available to employees to encourage continuing
education. Approximately 260 employees take advantage of the ¾ million dollars
PSHMC invests annually in tuition assistance.
