Mary Louise Witmer Jones Resident Humanitarian Award in Memory of Jane Witmer Kienle, M.D.

On her death in 1997, Mary Louise Witmer Jones of Medford, New Jersey, established an endowment to make possible an annual award in memory of her sister, Jane Witmer Kienle, M.D. The purpose of this award is to recognize a Milton S. Hershey Medical Center resident physician who demonstrates the highest standards of compassion and concern for his/her patients. This tribute and its accompanying $1000 award will be presented at Fall Convocation. To be eligible the physician must have completed one year of residency training at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and must be continuing residency at this institution for at least one additional year following the award. The resident physician we seek to honor is that individual who has demonstrated qualities such as: consistent acts of compassionate concern for fellow healthcare workers, and community; empathic awareness of the patient's experience of illness and the desire to facilitate the healing process; the ability to serve as an effective role model in the delivery of humane medical care.
