Penn State Special Hematology Laboratory offers a variety of specialized tests needed
to investigate hematologic and immune disorders. Included are B and T cell subset studies
and leukemia/lymphoma phenotyping on mononuclear cells from peripheral blood, bone marrow,
and lymph nodes in conjunction with the flow cytometry facility. Special emphasis is
placed on coagulation abnormalities, which are evaluated by referral or consultation.
Penn State Special Hematology Lab is a CLIA Certified, fully accredited reference
laboratory serving both the Department of Medicine and the Department of Pathology and
Laboratory Medicine. In addition, the Special Hematology Lab offers select testing to
outside hospitals and physicians in the areas of HIV RNA Quantitation (HIV Viral Load),
HIV genotyping for drug resistance, hepatitis C detection, quantitation, and genotyping,
as well as leukemia/lymphoma phenotyping and lymphocyte analysis utilizing flow cytometry.
