Educational Services
The treatment for cancer and hematology disorders is challenging. Maintaining
educational goals can be quite stressful for the child with cancer. Frequent
hospitalizations and decreased energy disrupt normal school attendance and
participation. It is important for a child's self worth and socialization to
maintain contact with friends and school.
At Penn State Children's Hospital we have full time educational specialists
who maintain contact with schools and provide classroom instruction during
extended hospital stays. They also work with the healthcare team and the school
in the process of reintegration back into school.
