Solucient's 100 Top Hospitals
We are proud to announce our selection as a 2005
award winner of the Solucient 100 Top Hospitals®: Cardiovascular
Benchmark for Success Study. The study released Oct. 31, identifies
Penn State Hershey Medical Center’s comprehensive program as one of the
nation’s top cardiovascular facilities. The study concludes that if all
hospitals provided the same quality of care as the 100 top hospitals,
survival rates would increase by more than 10,000 patients each year. It
also estimates that complications of care could be decreased for more
than 1,100 additional patients per year.
Solucient developed the study to identify
high-performing cardiovascular hospitals at a national level and to set
performance targets for clinical outcomes and management of this
high-risk, high-cost and high-volume service line. To qualify, hospitals
must achieve high scores across seven equally weighted areas of
performance measurement.
Penn State Heart & Vascular Institute was one of
only three academic medical centers in the state and one of only eight
Pennsylvania hospitals overall to make the list. For study details,
