Facilities and Equipment
The
GCRC is located on the fourth
floor. The GCRC is approximately 6800 square feet and
includes five patient exam rooms, three infusion sleep rooms
and an exercise room. Support areas include: the
reception and waiting area, a secure file room, a nursing
station, a small patient nutrition area, specimen processing
and a medical student and computer support area. Currently, these facilities are located
on the fourth floor of the Hershey Medical Center in Room
H4500.
The GCRC also includes a Microdialysis Core Lab located on
the sixth floor. The Microdialysis Core Lab includes the
laboratory equipment necessary to measure and quantify
compounds in the interstitial space.
A construction grant (C06 RR16499) from the National
Institutes of Health through the National Center for Research
Resources provided funding for fifty per cent of the
renovation and expansion costs of the GCRC.
Equipment
SensorMedics VO2 Max - The GCRC Vmax Machine is a SensorMedics Vmax229. The SensorMedics Vmax series are designed to provide the most flexible and extensive cardiopulmonary testing capabilities for the lowest possible cost of operation. The Vmax229 offers all the traditional Pulmonary Function and Exercise Testing capabilities.

Centrifuge - The GCRC centrifuge is a Jouan CR312. This centrifuge is designed for use in the laboratory for the separation of substances with varying density by centrifugal force. The CR312 is a refrigerated version used to maintain the sample at or below ambient temperature. This centrifuge is automated and designed for general purpose clinical and research laboratories.
Dexa Machine - The GCRC Dexa machine is a QDR 4500. The QDR system is used to perform an xray scan of the AP Lumbar Spine, Hip, Forearm, Ap/Lateral Spine or Whole Body. The Dexa machine technology provides accurate and precise measurement of small changes in bone mineral density measured in grams per centimeter squared. Presently bone mineral density measurements offers the most reliable means of recording the rate of bone loss or gain and estimating a patient's risk of fracture.

ECG Machine - The GCRC ECG machine is a MAC 1200 which is used for a resting ECG and a realtime ECG recording with or without arrhythmia detection. The Mac 1200 is designed as a portable device and can be moved from one patient to another or to different locations. It supports a 12 Lead, 6 Lead and Arrythmia Mode. The graphic display shows 3 Leads at a time. Patient and user data can be entered for reliable archiving of patient records.
