The comprehensive surgical weight
loss program at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center was started in 1979. The program
continues to offer comprehensive weight management services including:
nutritional counseling, medical evaluation, psychiatric evaluation, and
weight loss surgery (sometimes called stomach stapling or bariatric surgery)
for patients with clinically severe obesity.
Ann Rogers, M.D., assumed responsibility for the Penn State Surgical
Weight Loss Program at Hershey Medical Center in 2007. We currently
have four surgeons and a multidisciplinary bariatric team to better
serve patient needs.
Our web site is designed to provide you with information about the
medical risks of obesity and currently available treatment options
at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Although there are many types
of surgical weight loss procedures, the two procedures performed by
the Penn State Surgical Weight Loss team are the Roux-en-Y Gastric
Bypass and the Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band (Lap Band).
In addition to its
tertiary care, the medical center offers a comprehensive array of highly
specialized services, including cardiothoracic surgery, high-risk
obstetrical care, transplant surgery and spinal cord injury surgery.
Specialized care centers for cancer, heart care, emergency medicine,
orthopaedics, rehabilitation, sports medicine, and women's health provide
coordinated, cost-effective care.
Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center has been designated a
Center of
Excellence by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery.

The Penn State Surgical Weight Loss program is proud to have
been named a Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery!
