Approximately 17 million Americans have diabetes, a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. The cause of diabetes continues to be a mystery, although both genetics and environmental factors such as obesity and lack of exercise appear to play roles. The Penn State Diabetes Center is a consistent collaboration of scientists and medical specialists whose continues goal is to increase the scientific and medical knowledge needed to eradicate diabetes and help those with diabetes to live better and healthier lives. The 4th annual Dash for Diabetes will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the campus of Penn State Harrisburg in Middletown, PA! Organized by the Family Practice Interest Group of Penn State College of Medicine, the Dash for Diabetes 5K Run/Walk is held to promote exercise and combat obesity in children and adults, and also to raise funds for the Penn State Diabetes Center. You can support the Penn State Diabetes Center by participating in the Dash for Diabetes, and if you like, help us raise more funds for the Diabetes Center by asking family and friends to donate!
