Penn State Endocrinology and Diabetes clinic is
responsible for approximately 14,000 outpatient visits per year and
serves as a major tertiary care referral resource for physicians in the
twelve-county primary and secondary referral areas for Penn State Milton
S. Hershey Medical Center. To facilitate service throughout central
Pennsylvania, the Division has established a Camp Hill office.
The inpatient consult service interacts frequently
with patients and faculty of the Departments
of Surgery, Medicine,
and Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Approximately 2,000 consults are seen yearly. In this setting,
consultants provide major expertise in the inpatient care of diabetic
patients and in the care and evaluation of complex endocrine problems.
The major clinical problems include diabetes
mellitus, pituitary tumors, hyper- and hypothyroidism, thyroid nodules,
thyroid cancer, thyroiditis, hyper- and hypoadrenalism, amenorrhea,
hyperprolactinemia, hirsutism, male hypogonadism and infertility,
multiple endocrine neoplasia types I and II, and pheochromocytoma.
