Visiting Medical Students

Application Procedure

Applicants must complete a Visiting Student Application.  Elective positions are limited and students are encouraged to submit their applications early during the evaluation period of January 2nd through April 30th each calendar year.  All requested information on the application must be completed accurately.  Applications will not be processed until all necessary supporting documentation has been received.  Completed applications are sorted in chronological order based on date received.  Elective assignments will be completed by May 30th.   Approved applicants will be informed of the decision by e-mail.   

Below is a list of the documentation needed before your application can be processed:

  • A completed Visiting Medical Student application with Dean's Signature or authorized school official signature and school seal [Application Form]
  • A $75.00 non-refundable application fee for each four-week elective, made payable to Penn State University - send to Kim Spangler, Residency Program Coordinator [Contact Information]
  • Verification of personal health and general liability insurance. General liability limits must be at least $1 million per occurrence/ $3 million aggregate.
  • Documented proof of required immunizations. Must use HMC immunization form [Student Health Form]
  • An official transcript including core clinical clerkship grades
  • A copy of USMLE Step 1 Examination or COMLEX results
  • Documentation of Universal Precautions training (verified by a statement from the parent medical school)
