Patch testing for allergies
You are being tested to a wide variety of materials including
cosmetic ingredients, fragrances, perservatives, rubber components, metals,
medicines, fabric dyes and finishes, and plant substances. You can expect some
itching or burning from the patch testing procedure. You may take an
antihistamine, for example, Benadryl, for this.
The schedule for the week is:
- Monday: Patch tests applied
- Wednesday: Patches removed, and 1st reading
- Thursday/Friday: 2nd reading and interpretation of results
During the week of patch testing:
- NO shower
- NO sweating
- NO strenuous exercise
- REINFORCE loose patches with tape
If you develop a delayed, new, positive patch test reaction (red, itchy spot)
the week after patch testing, please report this to us.
If you have any questions or concerns call your doctor at (717) 531-6820.
