Leg vein treatments (Sclerotherapy)

Sclerotherapy is a method of treating unwanted blood vessels, often present on the legs of adults.  Spider veins are smaller vessels, and often have a red or bluish color. Varicose veins are larger vessels that may be raised above the skin and often are associated with pain and burning.

The procedure of sclerotherapy involves injection of  a solution, called a sclerosing solution, into the small vessels using a very fine needle.  The solution irritates the lining of the vessel, causing it to stick together.  Over the next few weeks, the vessel fades from view, eventually becoming barely or not at all visible.  Although effective, this treatment often requires multiple treatment sessions for optimal results.

Potential side effects include temporary hyper-pigmentation, ulceration at the injection site, and coagulation in the treated vessels.

For more information, and to determine if this procedure would be appropriate for you, please call (717) 531-6820 to schedule.
