Acne

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions affecting young people as well as adults. Although acne is not life threatening, it can lead to feelings of embarrassment or low self-esteem. In some cases, left untreated, acne can lead to permanent facial scarring.

Our dermatologists specialize in the treatment of acne and take the time to review the effectiveness of both over-the-counter and prescription medications with patients. The dermatologist will examine your skin to determine what type(s) of acne lesions are present. Treatment will then be individualized based on the type of acne and its severity, skin type (dry, oily, combination), experience with other medications and the patient's willingness to follow the outlined treatment plan.

Treatment may consist of topical creams or gels with or without oral medications depending on the severity of the acne. At the follow-up visit our dermatologist will reevaluate the patient's acne, solicit feedback concerning the treatment, and make any necessary adjustments in the treatment plan.

The length of time of treatment varies for each person and is based on an individual’s age and response to treatment.
