Dermatology
Strategic Plans and Tactics
Education – Our goal is to
recruit and retain the best faculty, residents, and graduate
students.
·
We will expand our faculty by recruiting a Mohs
surgeon, a cosmetic dermatologist, and a basic scientist.
· The
Schragger and Hassel Endowments were established to support our
educational missions.
· Leadership
training was started to enhance our residents’ future practice
in any setting.
· A
dermatopathology fellowship will start on July 1, 2008.
· Clinician-educator
and dermatologic surgery fellowships are planned for the future.
· A
clinician-educator endowment will be initiated.
Research –
Our goal is to be in the top 25% National Institutes of Health
(NIH) funded departments in the nation.
· A
physician scientist will be recruited to enhance our NIH funded
basic science research.
·
We continue to build our Dermatology Research
Endowment with: J & T Accessory Sales, our annual Food and Wine
Event, and individual donations.
· The
Professor of Dermatology Endowment helps support basic research
in Dr. Thiboutot’s laboratory.
· Innovative
translational clinical investigations continue with over a dozen
funded investigations annually.
Patient
Care –
Our goal is to increase the care we give to our patients.
· The
expansion of clinic space will allow us to treat more
patients.
· We
have recruited another general medical dermatologist to have
more appointments available at our Nye’s Road and
University Physicians Center clinics.
· Open
Access and evening clinics expand access for our patients.
· Our
care of skin cancer will increase with the future addition of
a third Mohs surgeon.
· The
dermatopathology joint venture between the Departments of
Pathology and Dermatology enhances skin pathology services.
· We
will explore opportunities to provide dermatologic care in State
College in the future.
Community Service
– Our goal is to enhance our involvement with our neighbors.
· We
continue to serve at the Bethesda Missions, Annual Skin Cancer
screening, Alopecia Areata and Psoriasis Support Groups, and
Camp Horizon.
· Our
Community Advisory Board increases our communication and
alignment with our citizens.
