Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic relapsing inflammatory skin disorder that affects
approximately 6 million Americans, or roughly 2% of the population. The
underlying cause of psoriasis has yet to be determined. Many factors are
involved including a genetic predisposition, the immune system, and
environmental factors.
We here at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center are interested in
finding better treatments for psoriasis. Our clinical research section has
participated in many studies to determine the efficacy of various medicines in
the treatment of psoriasis. We hope to offer patients with psoriasis better
treatment options in the future.
Our Dermatology departmental staff physicians offer psoriatic patients the
full spectrum of medical care. This includes topical treatments, phototherapy,
immunosuppressants, and the emerging new biological agents.
If you would like to have more information about our research programs,
funding, or volunteering for a study, please feel free to contact one of our
Clinical Trials Coordinators, Silvia Gosik, L.P.N., CCRC or Amy Longenecker, L.P.N.,
CCRC at (717)
