Primary Care Scholars Week

May 19 - May 30, 2008

A Primary Care Scholars Program is offered for students completing at least one year of college. The students, selected by the participating schools (through their Health Advisor) based on agreed-upon criteria, will spend a week at the Hershey Medical Center participating in lectures, seminars, and clinical experiences. The curriculum includes:

  1. Didactic (family medicine, medicine, pediatrics, family systems, preventive medicine, primary care, healthcare delivery/payment system, doctor-patient relationship, and health care team);
  2. Introduction to the College and Hospital (student affairs, medical education, student life, and hospital departments); and
  3. Clinical exposure accompanied by primary care physicians. In addition to the one-week program at the College of Medicine, the student participates in a preceptorship in a primary care office during the second week of the experience.

The Scholars Program began the summer of 1994 and has continued annually.
