Please contact Dr. Alistair Barber at extension 6506 for further information.

The Microscopy Imaging Facility (C3706, C3707, C3709, and C7643) consists of:

1). A Leica TCS SP2 AOBS confocal microscope with eight different laser lines: 405, 458, 476, 488, 496, 514, 543, and 633 nm; with an inverted stage microscope fitted with optional live cell stage heater and CO2 chamber; software for FRAP and FRET experiments, 3D reconstructions, and many other types of confocal analyses. The fee is $25 per hour. (To be trained to use this instrument, please contact Dr. Alistair Barber at extension 6506 or at abarber@psu.edu. After you are certified on the instrument, you may schedule instrument time through Rhona Ellis at extension 1157 or on the signup sheets in C3706)

2). An upright fluorescence microscope with a Retiga Exi high-speed CCD camera with QED software for image acquisition and  Huygens software for Deconvolution Microscopy. The usage fee for this system is $5 per hour. (To be trained to use this instrument, please contact Roland Myers at extension 4036 or rlm9@psu.edu. After you are certified on the instrument, you may schedule instrument time through Rhona Ellis at extension 1157 or on the signup sheets in C3706).

3). A Fluorescence Microscope that allows real-time acquisition of up to 8 fluorescent excitation-emission wavelength pairs. Developed by Dr. Russ Scaduto of our faculty, the microscope uses a system of rapidly spinning filter wheels to acquire fluorescence or fluorescence ratios fast enough to allow measurement of such short time-period phenomena as calcium imaging. The fee for the use of this system is $5 per hour.

4). An EM Microscope for Transmission Electron Microscopy and tissue section preparation (click for more information)

(please contact Roland Myers at extension 4036 or rlm9@psu.edu to arrange image acquisition)

5). A complete Histology Lab for tissue sectioning and staining, including both frozen cryostat and paraffin embedding & section preparation.

(please contact Kang Li at extension 5876 or kxl30@psu.edu to arrange histology work)
