Advisory Board
Meet Your Children's Miracle Network Advisory Board Member:

Ann Shields
Ann Shields-Young, senior vice president of
Universal Media, Inc., began serving on the Children's Miracle
Network Advisory Board
in 2005, but her involvement with Children's Miracle Network began in 1995 when Denny
Hopkins of GIANT Food Stores, a client of Universal Media,
invited Ann to help with the Our Kids Foundation to benefit
Children’s Hospitals within GIANT’s service area. Universal
Media has a long history of giving back to the local community,
especially organizations that help children. When Ann became a
member of the executive giving committee at Universal Media in
1994, they were donating to fourteen different organizations. In
1995, after being introduced to Children's Miracle Network, that number became
fifteen.
What Ann saw with Children’s Miracle
Network would forever change her life. She thought she had her
hands full with an autistic son, but Ann feels blessed compared
to the parents and children she has seen who utilize the
services at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. After seeing
firsthand how Children's Miracle Network helps people, Ann was hooked and had to be
involved in helping these families.
For Ann, a wife and mother, the most
rewarding aspect of being an advisory board member is seeing a
child overcome the odds, walk out of the hospital, and know that
in some small way she helped them. Ann says, “To look into the
eyes of a parent who is thanking you for helping their child and
to know that you have helped change their lives is worth every
second you spend with Children's Miracle Network.” This fits in to her philosophy on
life that we all have a purpose, and we must keep looking until
we find it. Ann believes she has been blessed, so she in turn
can bless others—and she does!
Children’s Miracle Network at Penn State
Hershey Children’s Hospital is honored to have Ann serve as a
member of our Advisory Board. Thank you, Ann, for your selfless
service!
