Description We are investigating whether the drug, atorvastatin, will lower cholesterol levels, improve the function of blood vessels, decrease circulating male hormone levels, and improve symptoms in women with PCOS.
What is expected of me? Medical history and physical, blood work, questionnaires, transvaginal ultrasound, electrocardiogram, comprehensive blood pressure measurements (consisting of continuous blood pressure, heart rate and blood flow monitoring during baseline and final testing), urine diary and daily collection of urine samples, oral glucose tolerance test, taking study medication or placebo
Inclusion Criteria
  • 18 to 40 years of age
  • PCOS
  • LDL cholesterol greater than 100 mg/dL
Exclusion Criteria
  • Pregnant
  • Lactating
  • Taking hormonal contraception (within last 3 months)
Length of Study There will be approximately 3 visits over a six-week period. The screening visit will be around 30 minutes The baseline and final visits last about 4-5 hours.
