Description This research study will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of a research medication for diabetic people who have mild swelling in the back of the eye (macular edema). Participants will receive either the active research medication or placebo (inactive substance). Possible benefits include; improvement of visual functioning and slowing of the worsening of the macular degeneration
What is expected of me? Take one pill with the largest meal everyday. Visit the clinic for a screening visit and then at least 7 more visits after that.
Inclusion Criteria 18 yrs. or older, have type I or II diabetes, have diabetic macular edema in the study eye
Exclusion Criteria Have a Hemoglobin A1C >11%, been in another research study within 30 days, had laser treatment in the study eye.
