Description The primary goal of this 5 year multi-center research study is to see whether certain nutritional supplements can help people at risk for the advance stages of macular degeneration as well as the original AREDS supplements did. The study is supported by the National Eye Institute.
What is expected of me? Participants will be asked to take supplied daily oral supplements, discontinue any supplements contained within the study and return for yearly follow-up visits after enrollment.
Inclusion Criteria
  • Men and women aged 50 to 85 years old
  • Eligible severity of Age-Related Macular Degeneration determined by ophthalmologist
  • Willingness to adhere to a 5 year study
Exclusion Criteria
  • Ocular disease in either eye which confound assessment of the retina
  • History of lung cancer or disease with a poor five-year prognosis
