The College of Medicine
Alumni Society thanks all alumni and friends who continue to contribute to its
scholarship program.
Because of alumni response, we awarded
more scholarships to deserving medical and graduate students
in 2007 than ever before.
"I take great pride in the
medical education I receive here at Penn State and am very proud of my privilege
to be a Nittany Lion. Receiving this scholarship not only re-invigorates me to
continue working toward my goal of becoming one of the best doctors in the
nation, but also helps alleviate the financial stresses that come with receiving
a medical education,” commented Christian Squillante, a College of Medicine
student who received an Alumni Society scholarship. “Thank you
again for this support and for being a part of the team that has helped to bring
me this far."
Since the scholarship
program began in 1994, the Alumni Society has raised more than $1.4 million
for class scholarships. From these invested dollars, $306,370 has been
distributed to deserving medical and graduate students in the form of
scholarships and program support. In 2007, the society
awarded scholarships to 70
students that totaled
more than $73,000.
"We would like to thank
you [Alumni Society] for this generous scholarship. We are fortunate to have
alumni who take an interest in graduate students who are currently enrolled in
our college," wrote Beth Vigliotti and Kristine Davidshoffer, College of
Medicine doctoral students who received Alumni Society scholarships.
Camila Mota, a medical
student in the Class of 2009 who received an Alumni Society scholarship last
year, says she, too, is grateful because alumni take an interest in her.
"Receiving this scholarship has enabled me to concentrate more on school work
and worry less about finances,” she explained. “Your generosity has made a
profound impact on my life, and I am truly grateful. It is my hope to bless
others through both finances, as you have, and through offering free medical
services to the ones who need it."
